The increasingly theocratic appearance of the USA (at least those of us on the outside), coupled with the inexplicable success of The Da Vinci Code, is having some interesting knock-on effects, such as two (so far) anti-Jesus flicks, both from the same director, Brian Fleming:
The God Who Wasn’t There deconstructs the mythical Jesus, presumably demonstrating his composite nature, incoporporating aspects of older solar deities including Mithras, Osiris and the Phrygian Attis.
Fleming, himself an ex-evangelical Christian, is also working on a fictionalised version of the story, The Beast.
It’s unlikely either of these will get much in the way of a public airing in the USA, but who knows what devilry might ride in on Da Vinci’s coat tails….
