Strange Attractor pal and Journal contributor Doug Skinner’s fantastic musical oddities show, “The Musical Underbelly,” is appearing at New York City’s Dixon Place, every Thursday in October. Doug has just just added Athanasius Kircher’s realization of the “Harmony of the Spheres” and a rollicking Masonic tune from 1898. He’s also written new arrangements for various combinations of voice, piano, Venezuelan cuatro (a guitarish instrument) and viola. It’s a guided tour of music from cults, secret societies, visionaries, mediums and cranks: a concert of the damned and forgotten.
Says Doug: “It should be fun; any customers would be appreciated.” Doug and I are hoping to prepare a book version of his performance some time in the near future.
Performances on 18 & 25 October at 8pm: Tickets: $12-$10
