Strange Attractor is thrilled and a little surprised to announce a new stage in the evolution of Further Recordings. What began as a small protuberance is now a full grown, wriggling tentacle. And are those baby teeth growing inside its suckers?…ahhhh.
The cause for celebration is the release of Further 004 – Amid Devonia’s Alps by Urthona – almost 60 minutes of soaring, unrelenting guitar worship and field recordings from deepest Dartmoor.
Urthona’s first release, I Refute it Thus (Head Heritage 2008) caused something of a minor sensation on its release, hailed as ‘one of THE greatest Drone albums ever made’. ‘Three enormous tracks populate this debut, commencing with an Ur-garage racket that conjures up visions of the Barrett Floyd hammering T. Dream’s early 45 ‘Ultima Thule’, before plateauing out into two exceedingly beautiful and enormously vast eternities of axe overload, ernie-ernieing seagull dives, digital distortion and microphonic feedback somewhere along the lines of Nadja, To Blacken The Pages and the Angelic Process, but even better and even more useful.’
Snippets – 2.5 mins each, taken from 20 minute tracks but should provide some flavour.

Read on for more about Further Recordings past and present…Initially we expect Further CDs to be available only via the Shoppe, though we hope to make arrangements with a few other online suppliers and possibly select record shoppes. Watch this space for Further developments.
All Further CDs will come in elaborate card gatefold packaging designed and produced especially for the label by Kennet Print in Devizes, Wiltshire. The packaging, including inserts, is 100% post-consumer recycled card and uses vegetable-based inks.
Further Recordings will be sporadic affairs, produced in small editions, so don’t expect a flood of material, though we can see a few more eggs in the hatchery already. Future releases from will include a forthcoming collaboration between Urthona and The Asterism plus albums from Spectral, Raagnagrok, Oort, The Asterism and others.
Please do get in touch (further.recordings_@_googlemail.com) if you would like to know more, if you would like to stock our wares or think your sounds might fit our stable.
Further back…
Further 001 was Mount Vernon Astral Temple’s Bent Sinister by Sound, an edition of 33 copies in a hand-packaged edition. Released in 2005 and immediately out of print.
Further 002 is the as-yet-unreleased or… by Spectral, a double CD of deep microtonal drift and gently curling sonic incense, due to emerge sometime in 2009 in another microscopic edition.
Further 003 is Simon James’ soundtrack to Ken Hollings Welcome to Mars, given free to those who have bought the book direct from the Shoppe.
And that brings us neatly to Further 004 and the present…
